August 7, 2020
CARI NGO is pleased to announce the signature on October 3, 2019 of a first financing agreement with the FFEM (French Global Environment Facility) for the Avaclim project for an amount of €1.1 million. The objective of this project is to contribute to the development of agro-ecology in the drylands of seven countries (Brazil, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, India, Morocco, Senegal and South Africa), through knowledge sharing, multi-stakeholder and multi-criteria assessment and scientifically-based advocacy. With a global budget of 3.1 million euros and a duration of three years (2020-2022), the Avaclim project will promote a common reflection among the different actors in agro-ecology through exchanges of experience on existing agro-ecological initiatives and then develop an evaluation method with scientists and field organizations. The knowledge acquired on the impact and success factors of agro-ecology will be disseminated in a targeted manner in order to support the appropriation of policies in favour of agro-ecology, both nationally and internationally. As such, the project involves ten partners under the coordination of CARI: FAO (Italy), IRD (France), EMG (South Africa), Agrisud International (Morocco), ARFA (Burkina Faso), Caatinga (Brazil), ENDA PRONAT (Senegal), ISD (Ethiopia), GBS (India), Both ENDS (Netherlands). The main funders are the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and the Global Environment Fund (GEF).
